The Opportunity

Translucent was only conceived in May but, due to the quality and track record of the team and the huge opportunity, it has already received investment from top tier angels and a leading institutional investor.

Translucent is taking advantage of the latest data tools & techniques to build a next generation accounting system. As such the Data Platform will be at the very heart of the company and the product.

The opportunity is to be there at the very beginning of a large and successful company.

The Role

This role will be part of the founding technology team. You will have the opportunity to design and build the data platform that enables the flexible and performant data oriented capabilities that our teams will need to build a delightful product.

You will be part of a small tech team (<10 to begin with) building the MVP of our product alongside our Data Science team.

Our team is building web-based user interfaces to multiple data products based on financial and accounting data from source through to myriad representations of the data: from board reports to statutory accounts, from forecasting to benchmarking.

You will be building a reliably scalable data platform which forms the backbone of our applications, as well as supports data science development.

  1. We need a data platform to make all forms of data accessible to clients and to internal teams for different use cases, with the ability to rapidly surface any combination of data, for any time period.
  2. The application needs to be designed from the ground up to cater for varying source schemas from 3rd party APIs.
  3. A key requirement is a flexible data model that enables addition of new data sources and is robust to future use-cases, as we intend to maximise the value of collected data.
  4. The data platform above all is a system of record for our customers, and accuracy is essential.

You will have the opportunity to contribute to decisions around architecture, toolset, cloud infrastructure, front end components, and internal/externally-facing APIs.

Requirements

A background in software engineering, with extensive system design experience.

You have years of experience building data oriented applications, and especially analytics solutions, translating business needs into data models and solution design.

You are familiar and experienced with modern application development, as well as the new developments in the Modern Data Stack, and understand their benefits and shortcomings (from event driven to dbt); proficient in modelling data and used to deploying production-standard code.

You are recognised by your colleagues as being excellent at your job and someone that people want to work with.

You are smart and curious, and passionate about your work.

You are looking to work in a team where excellence is recognised, people are treated well and there is a high product velocity.
